Lɪᴠʀᴇᴛ Dᴇ Fᴀᴍɪʟʟᴇ

After the wedding we were advised by the consular representative to compile our requirements for the Livret de Famille (Booklet of Family or Family Booklet) and to submit all the necessary documents as soon as possible to make the Visa process sooner as well. This is a French legal document which somehow is the same as our Marriage Certificate in the Philippines.  We were told that it's gonna take about two to three months for the transcription to be done and here are the requirements:
Original Marriage Certificate issued by the NSO and duly authenticated by the DFA (Red Ribbon)
Photocopy of Marriage Certificate issued by the City Hall or City Registrar

Note:  This list of requirement will be handed to you together with your Certificate of Legal Capacity to Marry and consular representative will actually advise you what to do next.

Since we had our wedding done at the City Hall which was celebrated by the Mayor we had to be the one to submit our papers (Marriage Certificates) to the city registrar.  So, about six days after the wedding we forwarded our documents to the city registrar.  It's important to do it as soon as possible because there's actually an "expiration date" for these documents to be forwarded to the city registrar which is about 10 to 15 days from the celebration of the wedding.

When we forwarded the documents to the city registrar we were advised to come back three days later to get our copy and also to submit a request for the NSO electronic endorsement of our marriage certificate so we can get a copy of it faster than usual. Indeed, after three days we received our personal copy of the MC from the city registrar and then we submitted a request for the NSO electronic endorsement and we had to pay ₱200.00 for it and again we were asked to come back after ten days to submit another request, this time, for the actual NSO authenticated copy.

As advised, I came back after ten days (had to do it alone coz my husband already had to go back to French West Indies to work) and then I had to pay ₱190.00 per NSO copy of our MC and I decided to request for three copies since I know I will need this document a lot for my passport, the embassy etc..  After I paid the ₱190.00 per copy i was advised to come back within five business days for the releasing of the document..at last!

The moment I received the NSO copy of our Marriage Certificate I went directly to a travel agency where I could pay for DFA authentication assistance or better known as "red ribbon" and I paid ₱2,500.00 for the service and again was told to wait about twelve business days but thankfully there were no delays and I actually got it within just eight business days.

So, at last our requirements for the Livret de Famille is already complete I'm just waiting on the date to forward it to the French embassy in Makati which will actually be soon.
The MC from the city registrar should look like this.

NSO Authenticated Marriage License should look like this.

DFA Authenticated Documents should look like these.

Note: The compiling of documents for le livret de famille should only take about a month and a half if you process everything right away.

  1. Hi Pandora,

I just wanted to ask since you mentioned that you were married in the city hall where the mayor celebrated your marriage and in this case, you had to submit your papers personally to the city registrar.

Is there any other way to get married in which the submission of your papers to the civil registrar will be automatic?

    Thank you!

    1. Hi Crescentine,

If you get married by a judge or in church I suppose the submission of the papers will be automatic, meaning, it will be the church who will forward your papers to the city registrar or the judge's secretary. I'm supposing here because I haven't experienced it first hand but I know quite a number of people who did it and they confirmed the process.

      Best of luck!

  2. I appreciate your quick reply! For your spouse visa, did you get the "Vacations in France" or the "Living in France" one? I saw them here: http://www.ambafrance-ph.org/IMG/pdf/Spouses_of_French_nationals.pdf

A little bit confused about the "Vacations in France" requirement, because the 4th requirement is One (1) copy of YOUR “carte d’immatriculation à l’Ambassade” or French national identity card. (Is this referring to the National Identity card of your French spouse?)

I mean, just because you got married to a French national, doesn't mean that you also will get a French National Identity Card, right? or does it? Did you get a French National ID card when you got married to your fiancee?

Sorry for being makulit. Thank you so much and please keep in touch! :)

    1. No problem dear, I don't mind the questions, it's normal. I was once like you.

Yes, this "carte d’immatriculation à l’Ambassade" is unfamiliar to me. I applied for a Long Stay Visa (Living in France) so I don't know anything about this paper. And you are right, marrying to a French national doesn't automatically make you a french national yourself. That's another process.

The Long Stay visa is quick and easy to obtain and it's free (not sure if they changed that). Once you have submitted all the papers you just have to wait between 7 to 10 business days.

So, after they wedding I didn't receive any ID. We received our Livret de Famille and my Long Entry visa. A year after my arrival in France, they issued me a "CARTE DE SEJOUR TEMPORAIRE", this ID will replace your Visa and you'll have to renew it annually until you become a French citizen (if you wish).

If you want, you can email me directly at: wildflower-13@hotmail.fr

      I hope this helps. :)

    1. Hi,

Here's how I did my papers after our wedding:

      1. About a week after our wedding at the city hall we submitted our MC to the city registrar and the person who received our papers advised us to come back 3 days later to submit an electronic endorsement request or advanced endorsement requet for the NSO. This request will make you able to receive certified NSO copy of your MC within 2 weeks.

      2. I went to CFO where I had a one-on-one interview and a quick seminar about the different possibilities of living abroad. It'll take about 1 day. You may find the detail about that process here: CFO

      3. When I had my CFO certificate of attendance and the NSO copy of our MC, I then went ahead and processed my passport renewal/change status. See the details here: PASSPORTRENEWAL

Note: for your passport, you may request to have it expedited. You'll have to pay a bit more (sorry I don't remember the price) but you'll get it in a week's time.

"my husband is expecting me to finish everything in a month's time. is this possible?"

-Tell your husband that unfortunately it's not possible to have everything done in a month's time.

Here's what I suggest for you to do:

      1. I don't know how long it's been since your wedding but try going to your city registrar and see if you can still submit for an electronic endoresement/advanced endoresment request for your NSO copy to be released sooner. Explain them that you need that for your visa.

      2. Once you have the NSO copy of your MC, submit one immediately to the DFA for red ribbon. If you're not from Manila I suggest that you go through a travel agency so you won't have to go to the DFA personally.

      3. Once you have #1 and # 2 (and a photocopy of your MC from the city registrar) then submit your papers to the French embassy for the Livret de Famille.

NOTE: you will be advised to wait about 2 to 3 months for your Livret de Famille to be released.

      4. Attend the CFO counselling ASAP so you can apply for a passport renewal (once you have the NSO copy of your MC as well).

      5. When applying for the passport renewal make sure that you request for the "express" not the normal processing so it will be done quickly.

When you claim your Livret de Famille you might as well apply for your spouse visa. The visa will be released within 7 to 10 business days.

*If you have more questions feel free to email me at wildflower-13@hotmail.fr

Good luck and God bless you too.

  6. Hello
    Salamat

    1. I submitted my papers for the family book alone but that was about 3 years ago, you may call the embassy directly to be sure about the process.

Regarding the translation, what translation are you asking about? For which document? I never translated any of my documents but then again you may call the embassy and ask the question directly to them.

I don't work for the embassy, all the information I am sharing here are based on my experience and I won't spend my time updating them. It's up to the readers to check if there are recent updates.

      Good luck.

    1. I don't know if they changed the process but in 2011 my husband didn't receive any paper in France. If they tell you that they will send you an email then that's it..if may isesend pa silang iba sasabihin naman nila yun, if email lang ang sinabi na isend so email lang ang dapat nyung i-expect.

      God bless.

    1. No, the family book and visa process are different. You have to have your family book first since it's one of the spouse visa requirements.

  12. Hello, I'm about to submit the requirements for the livret de famille next week to the embassy. How long is the processing time for its release? I have been checking for information on the internet and we have not found anything definite. Thanks in advance for the help!

    1. Hi!

There is nothing really definite about the issuance of the Livret de Famille with regard to the time frame, it depends on the number of couples needing it. It can range between 3 to 5 months but 5 months is really the longest I know so far.

      Good luck!

  13. hi po ask ko lang po kase medyo confused po ako, kase ang nakalagay po na isa sa mga requirements to have a family book is "copie authentifiée de mariage philippin délivré par la mairir de célébration" is it means po ba na copy of m.c from city hall but not the certified true copy palang, like your example above? thanks po ng marami :)

    1. They will need both, the one from the city registrar and the one from NSO.

    1. Normally it only takes about 2 to 3 months but we got ours in 5 months due to some internal issues of the embassy at that time.

  15. Hello, i would just like to ask, how long was the visa processing?

    1. hi! The visa can be released in about 2 week's time (10 business days) provided that all the requirements are complete, unless the process has been changed. Please mote that I'm sharing with you information from an experience I had way back 2011. Please don't hesitate to contact the embassy to be sure about the time frame.

    1. Hi,

You just need to present the original documents for verification they usually keep the photocopies not the original, with the exemption of the DFA authenticated documents (if there's any required). They'll never keep the livret de famille, that's yours but they'll ask you to provide photocopies of the pages containing your information.

      Good luck!
